It does seem that continuous criticism has started getting to the core team.
I want to let core team know that I am 100% in full support of IV. I encourage other people who have not yet shown their support to IV to do the same. They need it.
It is sad to see people who are probably frustrated due to their situations or lack enough patience venting their anger on IV core team. I for one, don't seem to get enough time out of my routine to really do anything and really admire core team members for spending so much time on this issue which is of course of so much importance for all of us on this website.
The people lashing out at core members need to understand that IV is not a shop where you pay money and buy results. It is an attempt to take voice of skilled immigrants to lawmakers, and that is all. You should not expect anything else. Please understand what is causing the frustration and address that issue separately. Leave the core members alone.
As for core members, I would like to say thank you from bottom of my heart. Seeing core members lashing out at other members is not probably the best thing for IV, however I can understand the frustration of core members.
I just hope that most members realize the limitations of IV and have enough patience to weather out this phase of frustration without causing harm IV which in fact should be their only hope.

I have done a lot of research on this topic and ended up in taking Tata-AIG. Few tips I can tell:
1. Try a high deductible: It brings down your rate significantly down. The way I saw it is, hopefully nothing will happen to my parents and for small things I have friends who can help them out. If there is something big I can afford a part of it and let insurance take care of rest.
2. have a few extra days than what your parents are coming for: say they are coming for 90 days get one for at least 120 days. Also make sure you get policies which are renewable.
3. Check on the insurance website if it covers hospitals in your area. I looked in one insurance where nearest hospital was 35 miles away from my home.
4. Look for ICU and surgical coverage closely as these two coverages are the most expensive and insurances tend to not cover it.

How about trying to convert the existing "free" members to paid members? People post questions here all the time asking about personal stuff. People can be allowed to register for free but for posting we need full details In the very least we need a VALID phone number and a VALID email. For this we do not need IV teams to do anything. If, as a surfer you want to post or get access to "members only" posts, the surfer has to call the IV phone number using his primary phone number. That whoever is answering the phones can verify the phone numbers. Once the phone number is verified, the status of that member will be "active".
Now the team responsible for collections can start calling the people and asking if they have contributed and how much. We are looking to get more members and that is a wonderful approach. However we have only a THIRD of the members paying over and over again as it seems from the previous posts. It's time to start converting the free members to paid subscriptions. These other 2/3rds are using IV bandwidth and resources. It's time people started paying their dues. Doesnt have to be $100 minimum, even $10 will do, but please contribute. :)

I don't think the only reason is "wife's cannot work".. The other reason for most is changing employers, and career growth while I-485 is in process.
You can keep changing employers once your I-140 is approved. You need to restart ur GC process but you can keep ur PD (if not revoked) and get a 3 year extension immediately based on the Approved I-140.
Sure it's not the best case scenario, but atleast you CAN do it. But for most married folk their spouses on H4 CANNOT work without EADs or waiting a year till the H1 quota opens. Even with the quota opening unless your spouse is into business or IT it is VERY tough to get an H1 for the spouse.

If that is correct (same category spill over) EB3 has a very very distant hope of getting some spill over when EB3 ROW becomes C and does not use all numbers. I was of the opinion before that the un-used numbers from EB3 ROW will go to EB1 and then EB2 India.

I am desi also, but I hate these consulting companies who do that. I worked my a** off to get a full time job, never faked my resume. People in this forum who blame it on the system are as guilty as the desi companies. Come on people, who are you all kidding, can you commit a crime and balme it on society/system for it? Dont even think about it unless you are a quant and have resources that can compete with the Hedge funds. Commodities do not behave like stocks, you need to be able to model prices using multi variate models. Then there is jumps. You should be familiar with jump diffusion/step functions etc. To be able to model these you will need to use a factor model like the Pilipovic model. Even then it will only be an approximation.
Commodities are purchased as futures. Futures are derivatives and you will need to hedge them. A perfect hedge for a future is 1:1 in the spot. Since there is no arb here you will have to use options. To model the price of an option you will have to be a master of Black-Scholes option pricing model or a similar method like monte carlo simulation. Even if you figure all this out you will have to delta hedge. Delta hedging commodity options is very expensive, you will bleed money. Look up Hodges-Nuberger model for delta hedging options on derivatives.
I suggest a book by Daragana Pilipovic called "Energy Risk", buy it and read it. After that if you still feel you can take on hundreds of computers running parallel with teams of quants modelling prices and programs trading algarithimic models; then Good luck!!

Now fundamental investing is different. Instead of directly playing with commodities you can play commodity stocks which are proxy for the commodity. The issue here is there are a few big players and bunch of small players. Small plays are too risky as most of them have resources outside US. You might be able to play big ones or medium sized ones. Have a look at companies like COP, EAC etc. You might be interested in looking at Canadian oil sands and trust plays.

Based on the responses I got (or lack of), and based on my research and calling around in last few days, I have come to following conclusions:
* Buy only from US based company
* Buy only comprehensive coverage plan, not fixed
* Buy only from a reputed and licensed broker who has been in business for some time, who is willing to help even after the sale.
* No body covers pre-existing conditions. Here and there, somebody is claiming to cover them in some cases up to some extent, but there is really no evidence or consistent past record of they having actually covered, at least I can't find any. Therefore, don't believe or expect that anyone would cover them, unless you are shown the proof and convinced otherwise.
Above may not always be true or suitable for everyone, but that seems to be the general idea.
I read this everywhere about buying from US based company but after going through the plans I don't really see any benefit. I think none of visitor plans are of much help.
You can go for comprehensive plan and they will list some PPO network, but you cannot use that network for any illness other than likes of flu and diarrhea. Initially I was unders the impression that having PPO network would atleast help in getting negotiated rates for emergency treatment but after talking to them furthur, I found out that they won't provide negotiated rates for pre existing conditions. There is a comprehensive plan from Liason which provides small amount for pre existing but that is flat amount and they will not negotiate rates as it is not covered illness. Most emergencies ( stroke, seizure etc.) are always regarded as pre existing.
As for ICICI lombard, I have not used them but they list that emergency situations will be covered. I understand it will be big hastle to get any money out of them but these US based companies won;t even consider these situations.

If PD is not current, they cannot accept the application, the just have to return the applications citing the same reason. If they accept the application they have to receipt it and if they reject, then they need to have qualified reasons for it... Not having available visas is not an acceptable reason to reject the receipted applications. It goes to shelves untill visa number becomes available... Note. if they receipt, they need to process EAD/AP and work on the application like any other.

More likely cause is that the letter from the applicant notifying his new job never reached/registered in CIS systems.
Did the person send the letter in time? Was there any intermediate change in status between NOID and actual denial status?
AILA should file a lawsuit regarding these denials. They expect people to follow all H/LCA/PERM and target employers/lawyers to send a message to other people but fail to follow their own laws themselves. A lawsuit causing hardship needs to be filed. I dont know why AILA has not taken any action against this practice.

wife's SR yielded in a response of "assigned to an officer on 9/11" and my infopass today (9/15) also had the same result....so I guess its a waiting game for us! I tried normal "outside of processing window" method to file SRs but now learnt about getting to directly to talk to IO...will try that tomorrow - I wish I could bug them ay this hour :)

It is shameful to have such members among us.
Anyways, good thread. This site should help people fix the broken system rather than abuse each other or track all day. I hope due to the discussion, people can get some ideas and take action against such employers. IV will be willing to help as needed.
Wish discussions on this thread leads to some concrete suggestions/steps that one take to counter an abusive employer. and ofcourse IV should take steps to make these employers visible to the whole community so that others will not fall pray to them. Exposing abusive employers to the whole community is the most important thing that could thwart efforts of exploitation by such employers. This sounds some times more effective than than even going legal or to DOL.
